Plastilon Packaging was started in 1973 in the backroom of a small estate agency in Lynnwood, Pretoria, by husband and wife team, Ben and Lyn de Wet. Originally they only supplied plastic bags, mainly to the retail trade, by cold canvassing at businesses such as bottle and grocery stores, general dealers (where are the days!), butcheries, pharmacies, hardware shops, boutiques, etc. etc. Gradually, the De Wet kids became involved in the business, and currently it is run by the second generation "packaging heads".
Over the past almost four decades they grew to become one of the leaders in the wholsesale distribution of general packaging materials of such varied product ranges as plastic and paper bags, boxes, packaging tapes, moulded plastic ware, protective packaging, packaging machines, gift and party packaging, plastic and glass bottles, weighing scales and a myriad of other general consumer products.
In 2008, after re-acting to modern shopping patterns, the in-store layout was changed from a counter trade to a cash and carry concept. This was a pioneering concept in the packaging material field, but was apparently the way to go, judging by the client response. Not only did the sales figures move upward dramatically, but hundreds of compliments were received from shoppers on the order, neatness and pleasant atmosphere of the new sales system. The associated new computer program also facilitated the service to trade and industrial customers.
We welcome you to the world of Plastilon, which in 2009 has also expanded to Namibia. Enjoy your shopping experience!
